Huge names and wrestling legends could be on the verge of a WWE return in time for WrestleMania 29 in 2013!
Wrestling is full of surprises and it is this time of year in which such surprises usually come to pass. 2012 has already been littered with countless legendary returns including that of the return of "The Next Big Thing" Brock Lesnar, the return of The Rock to the WWE title picture, the debut of Lord Tensai and with many more still yet to come. However, with WWE Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 29 one year away in 2013, which other big name wrestling legends could make a comeback for the “Grand Daddy of Them All” and why? Here are some wrestling legends which could indeed be on the verge of a comeback to the WWE in 2012, 2013 and beyond.
The Undertaker
The Undertaker made a return ot WWE Raw in 2012 the night after the Royal Rumble where he confronted his old enemy, Triple H. This culminated in an epic Hell in a Cell match at WrestleMania 28 in 2012 in which The Undertaker finally achieved 20-0 in his undefeated WrestleMania streak at the expense of "The Game". Now that "The Deadman" has achieved an amazing legacy, will he come back for WrestleMania 29 in 2012? Following the WWE return of Brock Lesnar, not to mention with his streak now surpassing an astonishing achievement, perhaps the time has now come for Undertaker's streak to be put to rest. It is pretty much guaranteed that "The Phenom" will return to the WWE in time for WrestleMania 29 in 2013, but who will his opponent be? Could Undertaker face Brock Lesnar, The Rock, John Cena or perhaps another huge superstar such as Batista, Goldberg or Sting?
“The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels
Shawn Michaels made a return to the WWE just prior to WrestleMania 28 in 2012. He shortly after became the special guest referee for the amazing Triple H Vs. Undertaker Hell in a Cell match where "The Heartbreak Kid" attacked both Triple H and Undertaker on a number of occasions. Considering the dignity of both HHH and Undertaker and the lack of respect that HBK showed, it is very likely that Shawn Michaels could actually make an in-ring return to the WWE at WrestleMania 29 in 2013. Most likely, Shawn Michaels could face Triple H in one final retirement match, in what would most certainly be fitting considering the lengthy history between these two former D-Generation X comrades. Whether Shawn Michaels returns to the ring to face Undertaker or Triple H, it would certainly add a huge amount of star power to the WWE WrestleMania 29 card to say the least.
“Stone Cold” Steve Austin
The legendary Stone Cold, the face of the attitude era, is a movie star these days, but his on-off wrestling returns regularly showcase that he has not missed a beat and that he is in arguably the best shape of his life these days. Austin has said that he wants one more match in the WWE, but who will it be against and when will it be? With WrestleMania 29 one year away and with Austin’s fellow Attitude Era veteran, The Rock, returning to the WWE in pursuit of the WWE Championship, now would certainly be the best time for an Austin return in time for WrestleMania 29. Austin could face such names as CM Punk, a man whom many feel is “The next Austin” in the wrestling world. However, to be worthy of such a title, Punk has to beat Austin first. The banter between these two on Twitter this year has been brilliant and it really is only a matter of time before CM Punk and “Stone Cold” Steve Austin come face to face, especially considering the back-and-forth between the two has even resulted in the two challenging each other to a match at WrestleMania 29. What better time than at WrestleMania 29 in 2013? With The Rock as a major franchise player in the WWE right now and with CM Punk leading the current attitude youth movement, now would be the best time for Austin to confront Punk which will culminate in a WrestleMania 29 classic.
Kevin Nash and Scott Hall as The Outsiders
Kevin Nash recently returned to the WWE and gave the fight of his life against Triple H. Nash proved that he is in phenomenal shape and that he can still hang with the best of them when it comes to his in-ring prowess, so why stop there? Scott Hall has been in the media in regards to his personal problems but with rumors of a successful rehab, there is no reason to doubt “The Bad Guy” and surely, seeing his best buddy “Big Kev” on WWE is all the more reason for Hall to make a comeback. Hall enjoyed a successful comeback to TNA in 2010 in which he looked in phenomenal shape and had countless brilliant quality matches; how about one more for the good guys in 2013? WrestleMania 29 would be the perfect time for Hall and Nash to “get the band back together”. They could face an up and coming tag team or even other returning legends in Triple H and Shawn Michaels. Hall is one of the greatest of all time and all he needs is that little bit of motivation and he could quite easily main event WrestleMania 29 in 2013.
X-Pac
Whether you want to call him Sean Waltman, the 1-2-3 Kid, Syxx or X-Pac, there s no denying the talent of this man, that still has youth on his side also. With undeniable talent, Waltman has been on a roll in recent years following a successful comeback to TNA Wrestling in 2010. These days, rumors are all over the place in regards to "The Kid's" wrestling status and he has apparently been in talks with the WWE. X-Pac would be a valuable asset to the WWE in 2012 for a number of reasons. He has both youth and ability on his side and would fit in perfectly with the WWE's youth movement as a young veteran. Not to mention the fact that he has history with countless names in the WWE today including Triple H and Kevin Nash. There has not been a better time for X-Pac to make a WWE return. Could X-Pac wrestle at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, especially considering on-going rumors of the WWE bringing back the cruiserweight division?
“The Immortal” Hulk Hogan
Perhaps an unlikely candidate, but why not? Hulk Hogan is synonymous with WrestleMania and he has not been seen in the wrestling ring since his match with “The Icon” Sting at Bound for Glory 2011. Hulk is in brilliant shape and certainly proved he still has “it” when it comes to performing in the ring. You need only look at recent pictures of Hulk Hogan to see that he looks great and in the ring, he is as good as ever. Hulk Hogan could quite easily return at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, but in what form? There is still plenty of potential for Hulk Hogan in the WWE should he choose to return, and he could quite easily put on one final WrestleMania classic against a current WWE Superstar at WrestleMania 29.
“Nature Boy” Ric Flair
Ric Flair has enjoyed plenty of success in TNA Wrestling, but when it comes to legends that could return at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, are there many bigger than Ric Flair? The recent returns of Triple H and Shawn Michaels, not to mention the returns of other legends such as fellow WCW alumni Kevin Nash and Booker T could potentially signal the return of one of the greatest stars of all time, Ric Flair. There is plenty left for Flair in the WWE, especially at an event such as WWE WrestleMania 29. Considering the WWE is currently very youth oriented, Flair could bring a touch of old school and face such names as Daniel Bryan, CM Punk, Zack Ryder or Evan Bourne to teach these young cats a thing or two about the school of hard knocks. For what it's worth, Ric Flair even appeared at WWE WrestleMania 28 in 2012, despite actually being under contract to TNA Wrestling - could this be a sign of things to come int he future of "The Nature Boy" in the world of professional wrestling?
Batista
Batista’s WWE return has been rumored for a long time, and yet nothing actually came to pass. Batista is very vocal on the Internet world as of late which certainly raises speculation in regards to his status. He was rumored to be working on his MMA career – and then he vanished. However, considering he was recently featured on WWE 12’s video game as a legend, could this signal a potential return for “The Animal”? Based on recent pictures, Batista looks phenomenal and he is certainly long overdue for a WWE return. He was backstage at both WrestleMania 28 in 2012 and the April 2nd edition of the Monday Night Raw SuperShow. He even took to Twitter to tell the fans to expect a major announcement in regards to his career coming soon. Could we see Batista back in the WWE in 2012 and if so, exactly what role will he play at WrestleMania 29 in 2013?
Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho made a shocking return to the WWE in January of 2012 and went into WrestleMania 28 to put on a classic against CM Punk. While Jericho failed to win the WWE Championship from his rival, he did indeed prove that he is still "The Best In The World" after some epic and stiff back and forth. Jericho is still very important to the WWE and he may indeed prove to be a crucial part to the company leading up to WrestleMania 29 in 2013. Considering the amount of talent that the WWE currently has on its roster including the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker, Triple H and more, there is no shortage of potentially legendary matches for Chris Jericho to have at WrestleMania 29 in 2013.
Goldberg
Bill Goldberg has been inactive from wrestling for several years but he recently announced his wrestling return. He is rumored to be taking on Batista at a charity event. However, with 2013 one year away and perhaps the most decisive and iconic WrestleMania to follow it, could Goldberg actually return to the WWE in time for WrestleMania 29? Considering Batista could potentially return too, could it be that the charity bout between Goldberg vs. Batista could actually take place at WrestleMania 29, or will Goldberg face The Undertaker in a WCW vs. WWE dream match? Needless to say, there is a lot of potential for a Goldberg WWE return these days; 2013 could see such a legendary return come to fruition and with such superstars as Brock Lesnar, The Undertaker and John Cena on the roster, Bill Goldberg could see the match of his career at the illustrious event that is WrestleMania 29 in 2013.
Sting
Sting has never been a part of the WWE, but he is a regular subject of their “classics” TV and web program in which the WWE regularly showcases many of Sting’s classic matches against such names as Ric Flair, Hulk Hogan, Lex Luger, Goldberg and more. Sting has had a brilliant career, but the past few years have potentially excelled them all. Sting has been a man on a mission in wrestling and has enjoyed the TNA world heavyweight title once more in 2011 and he is gunning for the gold once more in 2012. There is still one thing missing in “The Icon” Sting’s career however and that is a match at WrestleMania. With WrestleMania one year away, this would certainly make WrestleMania 29 an even more star studded event if “The Icon” Sting were to make his WWE debut and have a flawless masterpiece of a match against another wrestling legend or an up and coming superstar at WrestleMania 29. Arguably the biggest dream match of all time is Sting Vs. The Undertaker; it could finally come to pass at WrestleMania 29 in 2013.
Mick Foley
Mick Foley is once again affiliated with the WWE. He recently returned to the company where he competed in the Royal Rumble match in 2012, as well as appeared in a sketch at WrestleMania 29. However, in recent years, Foley has had some flawless matches, mainly in TNA Wrestling. He has had several masterpieces including a TNA world title victory over "The Icon" Sting and a major bloodbath against "Big Sexy" Kevin Nash. Foley is a man that never lost it, and never will. He could even main event WrestleMania one more time. As a master of the microphone and a diamond in the ring when it comes to the hardcore style, Foley could quite easily take the youth movement to the next level by putting over a star of the future at WrestleMania 29 in a way only "Cactus Jack" or "Mankind" can. Bang Bang!
Chyna
Chyna recently enjoyed a successful return to TNA Wrestling in which she and Kurt Angle defeated Jeff Jarrett and Karen Jarrett. China is a women's wrestling veteran and proved that she still had the talent to compete. Chyna is indeed a wrestling legend and a WWE legend too; what better time than a women's wrestling legend to return than WrestleMania 29? With other legend rumored for a comeback including Lita and Trish Stratus, not to mention, some brilliant talent on the WWE women's roster such as Beth Phoenix, Chyna, as one of the most controversial and iconic WWE Divas of all time, could indeed dominate the WWE in 2013 and beyond.
Needless to say; 2013 is going to be a huge year for the WWE and wrestling in general. WrestleMania 29 already has a potentially star-studded line-up following the returns of Brock Lesnar, The Rock and Lord Tensai. That, accompanied with a new page in history for the likes of The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels and Triple H, as well as the current era which is dominated by the likes of CM Punk, Daniel Bryan and Sheamus, as well as the potential returns of the likes of Goldberg, Steve Austin, Batista, Sting and more - WrestleMania 29 is already an exciting event! Exactly what will come to pass in one year's time when WrestleMania 29 is upon us in 2013?
