Major feuds for The Undertaker in 2012: WrestleMania 28 and beyond?
The Undertaker is expected to return to the WWE in the near future. With WrestleMania 28 right around the corner in the 2012 New Year and talks of Undertaker’s retirement, WrestleMania win streak and so much more currently in the air, it is only natural that “The Deadman” will shock the world in the way that only he can, and contribute to the “End of the World” theory in the WWE in 2012. However; whose worlds will end at the hands of “the Phenom” in 2012? To put it more simply, who could The Undertaker feud with in 2012 and beyond? Here are some potential names that could fall victim, or end the streak of The Undertaker:
Triple H
Triple H is perhaps the most speculated potential opponent for The Undertaker at WrestleMania 28 in 2012. “The Game” is also the most likely candidate the end the WrestleMania win streak of The Undertaker also considering they have so much history, not to mention, Triple H falling victim to Undertaker at WrestleMania on two separate occasions. If The Undertaker and Triple H were to feud in 2012, this would certainl;y have immediate potential to be a feud of the year candidate. If Triple H were to defeat Undertaker at WrestleMania 28, it would be historic, but if Triple H was to lose, the pair could have an amazing rivalry based on the fact that HHH has been defeated three times by Taker. The storyline here could be, the feud will not end until HHH finally wins. Who knows; this could even be a vintage, old school year-long rivalry like the times of old!
Shawn Michaels
Shawn Michaels peculiarly emerged quite recently in 2011 as part of the Triple H vs. Kevin Nash feud, but could there be more substance to HBK’s shocking return? It seems weird that Michaels would return so close to WrestleMania 28, and more so, so close to the Undertaker’s return which is obviously quite imminent. Much like the aforementioned Triple H, Shawn Michaels has lost t6o Undertaker twice at WrestleMania, the final time resulting in his retirement at “The Phenom’s” hand after what was most certainly a feud of the year. The pair could feud again in 2012 on the basis of Michaels refusing to retire at Undertaker’s hands, resulting in the two feuding once more until either man calls it quits once and for all. This could lead to the retirement of both Undertaker and Shawn Michaels once more.
Kevin Nash
Kevin Nash is one of Undertaker’s greatest opponents. The two engaged in an epic rivalry in the 1990’s. Nash returned to the WWE in 2011 and enjoyed success in the promotion until his career was presumably ended by long-term friend and rival, Triple H, at WWE TLC in December of 2011. However, considering Nash is easily in the best shape of his life and looked amazing in the ring, why stop there? A rekindling of another old rivalry between The Undertaker and Kevin Nash would be an amazing feud that could be based on the grounds of who is the most iconic big man, who has the most lethal powerbomb or even, who is the greatest veteran in the WWE today. This would certainly be a brilliant and nostalgic feud for The Undertaker in 2012 should it come to pass.
CM Punk
CM Punk is the top dog in the WWE today. He is not only the WWE champion, but he is also the leader of the so-called ‘youth movement’ which has seen countless independent wrestlers such as Daniel Bryan and Evan Bourne, not to mention, young and talented wrestlers such as Zach Ryder rise to prominence and fame. One thing about the youth movement however is that they have a tendency to disrespect and even disregard the older, veteran wrestlers on the roster which today are few and far between. Undertaker once based his career on respect, which CM Punk certainly does not have. This would be the basis for an amazing feud between CM Punk and Undertaker. If anyone can put respect back in the WWE and teach CM Punk a lesson, it is The Undertaker and this certainly has the potential to be an amazing feud in 2012.
Masked Kane
Undertaker’s fellow “Brother of Destruction” tag team partner, Kane, returned to the WWE several months ago wearing his old-school, trademark mask. This is a major sign that Undertaker could return to the WWE to feud with his brother simply because it has signalled it in the past. When Kane buried The Undertaker, Undertaker returned sporting his old gimmick and engaged in a rivalry with Kane culminating in a brilliant match at WrestleMania. Several years back, history repeated once more when a returning Kane turned heel and engaged in a rivalry with The Undertaker. Now, Masked Kane has his sights firmly set on John Cena, but for how long and more importantly; what about after he has finished with him? Countless wrestling fans would love a modern day match between Masked Kane and old school Undertaker for both nostalgia and the fact that both men still have the “it” factor and are still flawless in the ring. This, much like it was several years ago, would be an absolute masterpiece of a feud in 2012.
Goldberg
Goldberg, who has recently been seen in the local news talking about a potential wrestling return, is in phenomenal shape. He has not wrestled since his WWE stint came to an end in the early 2000’s. However, Goldberg may be on the verge of a comeback and if he did, perhaps one of the most amazing “dream feuds” would be against The Undertaker. This feud could be based on the entire “streak theory” or “phenom theory” considering both men are famous for their undefeated streaks. Similarly, this is also a WWE vs. WCW dream match. So, if both Goldberg and Undertaker return to WWE in 2012, this would certainly make a dream feud come to life.
Batista
Batista has been rumoured for a WWE comeback for several months but no substance has actually emerged to confirm these theories. However, it is important to note that one of Batista’s last feuds in the WWE was against The Undertaker. Undertaker was actually injured at Batista’s hands costing him the world heavyweight championship. If Batista was to return to the WWE in 2012, one of the best possible feuds for him to come back to would most certainly be against The Undertaker. Undertaker and Batista have had phenomenal matches and brilliant feuds and one more certainly would not go amiss in 2012 and beyond.
Sting
“The Icon” Sting’s career seems to be winding down in TNA Wrestling. He had an amazing year in 2011 in which he both won the TNA world heavyweight title from Jeff Hardy and even had a match with “The Immortal” Hulk Hogan at TNA Bound For Glory 2011. However, if Sting does leave TNA Wrestling, that would make him a free agent. WWE feelers have been on Sting for years, but he keeps resigning with TNA Wrestling. However, with nothing left to do in wrestling for The Stinger, there is actually one thing left for him to do – a WWE debut and amatch against The Undertaker. This feud has been a dream of wrestling fans for almost two decades and it will continue to be so until it finally comes to pass. With the whole “end of the world” theory in 2012, what better time would there be for these two iconic dark forces of evil to collide? Could we finally see the epic feud between The Undertaker and Sting in 2012 and more importantly, could such a feud culminate in a WrestleMania 28 dream match?
There are countless potential feuds for The Undertaker in 2012. It is safe to say that with “The Deadman” on the verge of a return, 2012 will certainly be an exciting year for the WWE. Here’s hoping that Undertaker returns to the WWE soon and when he does, here’s hoping that some of the feuds above come to pass to make his return a valiant and exciting one for the entire WWE Universe and indeed, the entire world of professional
