Poverty and unemployment in the UK and how it can be overcome
71The answer to Britain's problems...
Poverty and unemployment are two major global problems to which a just cause in regards to solving both has never been implemented. Of course, there are several factors that contribute to present day poverty and unemployment. Especially in the UK, the two tie hand in hand. This Hub aims to explore poverty and unemployment as well as consider potential answers that could solve the problems.
Government greed
It is important to consider the fact that government greed plays a very important role in poverty and unemployment. More and more people are constantly being made unemployed but the government refuses to help these people. Only a select few are eligible for benefits in the present day and it seems that you have to be a pregnant teen or a visitor to the country in order to claim benefits. Even those who are lawfully eligible for benefits such as self employed people out of work are often denied benefits. This is due to a flawed government that is only out to line their own pockets with gold rather than help people that actually need it.
The answer to solving both poverty and unemployment in the UK is for the government to cease their own greed. The money that fills the pockets of lazy MP’s could quite easily be put into benefiting the country. This takes us on to our next point.
Government budget cuts
The British government has recently cut back on essential budgets to the country. Namely, the education sector has taken a major hit. The unemployment register is certainly scheduled to get larger simply because students can no longer afford to go to university and get the education for a job or a career meaning that after school or college, they will simply be out of education and out of work and subsequently reduced to job seekers allowance. If the government did not raise the education costs to £9.000.00 a year for a simple university education, there would be far less people unemployed and therefore, far less people suffering from poverty that is derivative from this issue.
Again, the answer to solving this problem is for the British government to focus on the field of education. Shortly after the cut, David Cameron stated that the reason for the cut was for people coming from abroad to study in the UK to be able to get a cheaper education. This is of course by sacrificing the education of British citizens, probably because Cameron wants to focus on building ties with foreign countries for future trade and profit to further line the government pocket with gold.
Poverty and unemployment in the future of the UK
The problem is only getting worse as time goes by. The British government is heavily in debt and instead of trying to find a fix to the problem; the government instead funs a near 50 million royal wedding and looks to spend countless amounts of money on funding an Alternative Vote system. There are much more important issues to address such as actually getting the government out of debt, getting people back in work and ending country-wide poverty. This is not an issue that will just go away, it is an issue which needs care and attention if this country and its people are going to survive and thrive.
Again, it all comes back to greed and an inability to hear the voices of the people that are struggling to survive. The London riots in protest of student budget cuts speak for themselves. The people need help yet the government is not prepared to heed our word and give it to us. The future is bleak if the country continues to head in the direction it is going to say the least. Youth crime will increase because students can’t afford an education but cannot find a job. This will subsequently result in more illegal drug trafficking, underage drinking and teenage pregnancies. Poverty and homelessness will be on the increase, debt will become all too common, even more so and the country itself will be in even more of a state than it is in now.

I feel government wise we're in a mess. Labour ruined the countries finances and have now washed their hands of it so the coalition government are left to deal with a problem situation which in an ideal world they would not have wished to deal with and are having to short change every aspect of their finances while consistantly being criticised for what they do.

That is certainly an interesting hub for poverty and unemployment in the UK, and how to overcome it. However, aside from the greedy aspect of government, it is solely up to the people to assist other people, so as to wake them up to their own future potential. Feeding off the negative of government isn't truly an option that is beneficial for anyone. Steps to promote positive steps forward, such as help people to educate themselves and show them that they have the ability to push forward is key to destroying poverty, even on a global level. I appreciate your sentiments on government, but even the budget cuts government makes, isn't going to right the ship that continues to sink. Thank you for your time.
