Every movie fan has heard of Scarface. The movie, directed by Brian De Palma was released in the year of 1983 and featured legendary actor Al Pacino as the character Tony Montana in one of his most critically acclaimed, cult classic and overall craziest roles. In the 2000’s however, the Scarface trend continued to flourish and evolve with the release of a video game for the Sony Playstation 2 as well as other consoles known as “Scarface: The World Is Yours”.

The World Is Yours begins in Tony Montana’s mansion when he is being attacked by an onslaught of Sosa’s men, just as he is at the end of the movie. However, this time around, Tony manages to escape, thus giving an alternative ending when compared to the movie. Tony however loses the American Dream and is forced right back to the bottom of the drug lord ladder – he is once again, a nobody. Tony sets out on an action packed adventure hell-bent on revenge and rebuilding his empire.

The story is a masterpiece in almost every aspect. It is an alternate end on the Scarface world which subsequently results in a brand new story unfolding. Players will see a cast of familiar characters and new ones, familiar sights and locations from the film as well as learning more about the whereabouts of such characters as Tony’s Mama, Elvira as well as the fates of Tony’s sister, Gina and his best friend Manny. The story is full of drama and situations reminiscent of the film but with a brand new, original and unique feel that makes it an adrenaline, dramatically fuelled masterpiece.

Players will see a similarity between Scarface: The World Is Yours with other such games as Grand Theft Auto, The Getaway and Driver. However, Scarface has its own unique aspects that separate it from any other titles. You rebuild your empire brick by brick. You can purchase Tony’s mansion and customize it as you please with the “Pimp My Mansion” option which allows you to purchase “exotics” and place them in the mansion adding a sim element to the game. You can create Tony’s Mansion and yard in your own image.

With a host of weapons to choose from including shotguns, automatics, pistols and even the signature Scarface chainsaw and grenade launchers, you can unload a massacre of brutality on the world. You can switch from Tony to other characters such as “Driver”, “Assassin” and “Enforcer” for unique missions that would not otherwise be available, or simply to kill civilians in a vintage GTA style reminiscent manner.

You can follow the story or stray away, you can continue to level up your mansion, complete drug deals or follow Felix leads, complete racing missions and so much more. When it comes to the gameplay, there is so much to do, so many things to see and such a vast open world environment to explore that it is so easy to lose track of time and waste days playing it because there is always something to do.

Scarface: The World Is Yours is an old game and therefore, it can be purchased fairly cheap nowadays. Head to a second hand video game retailer and you will likely be able to pick it up for £5.00. I managed to get it for 4. You can even purchase it online from websites such as Amazon, eBay or Play as a means of getting it potentially even cheaper.

The game is worth every penny, as little as it is, simply for the fact that it is so unique yet still maintains vintage Scarface conventions that is a breath of fresh air for fans of the movie. Needless to say, if you are a PS2 owner, this game is not one to be missed if you are looking for something unique, original and standalone while still enjoyable, reminiscent of other titles and of course, want to take control of the legendary Tony Montana and rebuild his empire in your own image.

Cheats can be accessed by pressing start at any time during the game. Cheating does not ruin the game save, nor does it alter the game in any way other than by giving you the occasional bonus as and when you want or need it, so go ahead and use them as you please without fear of ruining your game. Cheat 1: FLYSTRT – This cheap decreases cop heat which means you can launder money with lower interest as well as being less likely to gain attention from the police.

Cheat 2: NOBALLS – This cheat decreases gang heat which means you can get more money when selling product.

Cheat 3: FPATCH – This cheat fills Tony’s “Balls” meter which can allow you to go into rage mode by pressing O. This automatically targets enemies, refills health, increases chances of dismemberment and is more precise and easy to use. It is also first person.

Cheat 4: AMMO – This cheat gives Tony maximum ammo for his equipped weapon.

Cheat 5: MEDIK – This completely refills Tony’s health, a process which is often necessary and expensive.

Cheat 6: TBURGR – This cheat completely restores the health of any vehicle that Tony is driving.

Tip 1: Follow Felix Leads – This gives you access to small missions which can subsequently give you access to lots of money quickly.

Tip 2: Meet Femme Fatales – If you get a mission that says “meet with a femme fatale”, meet with her. Once you recruit her to your mansion, you can level up.

Tip 3: Always stop if a cop is following you – If you see a blue badge following you on the map, stop and complete the fast talk a cop mission to avoid being chased.

Secret: Swim out to sea – Swim out as far as you possibly can for a unique and funny scene.
