Tag-team wrestling is one of the oldest and most historic forms of professional wrestling in the world. The concept has spanned from promotion to promotion over the course of countless generations. Promotions such as World Wrestling Entertainment, formerly known as the World Wrestling Federation, World Championship Wrestling, Extreme Championship Wrestling and Total Nonstop Action Wrestling in recent years have all had a rich and historic tag-team division which has included such legendary names as The Steiner Brothers, The Road Warriors, Demolition, D-Generation X, The Outsiders and countless others. Exactly who are the most dominating and most legendary tag-teams in the history of professional wrestling?
The Road Warriors: Legion of Doom
Number One: The Road Warriors: Legion of Doom
Number One: The Road Warriors - When you think of tag-team wrestling, you immediately think of Hawk and Animal, the childhood best-friends that made up the legendary duo of the Legion of Doom: The Road Warriors. The duo won countless world tag-team titles in countless organizations and they were easily recognisable for their war paint and their armour, a concept which had never been seen in wrestling before. Of course, they bought with it the talent, the charisma and the flawless chemistry. They are without a doubt one of, if not the very best tag-team of all time. Sadly, the LOD came to an end following the tragic death of Mike "Hawk" Hegstrand in the 2000's. In 2011 however, they were inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame where they now finally get the recognition they deserve. Animal appeared at WWE WrestleMania 28 in 2011 in his late partner's honour.
The Steiner Brothers
Number Two: The Steiner Brothers
Number 2: The Steiner Brothers - Rick and Scott are one of the most decorated tag-teams in the history of professional wrestling. They have wrestled and defeated every huge tag-team that ever walked the aisle in the WWE, WCW, ECW and TNA Wrestling where they enjoyed their most recent reunion in the late 2000's. When The Steiners walk to the ring in Japan, they are worshipped like Gods for their flawless contributions to the country's wrestling circuit. Rick and Scott Steiner have more championships than they can count and their legacy stretches in all four corners of the world. There are very few that can compare to this powerhouse, technical and once high-flying real-life brother duo.
The Rock 'N' Roll Express
Number Three: The Rock 'N' Roll Express
Number Three: The Rock 'N' Roll Express - Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson are the living, breathing image of 1980's success and prowess yet their legacy is as strong as ever. Not only did The Rock N Roll Express enjoy an iconic feud with rivals Midnight Express that still spans to this day, but Morton also enjoyed singles success after a legendary feud with Ric Flair. The iconic high flyer's have plenty of tag-team titles under their belt and they have wrestled all over the world against some of the world's finest. They were also responsible for bringing The Rockers to life in their early days. Without Ricky Morton and Robert Gibson, you would not have Shawn Michaels. Now that is strange to think.
The Four Horsemen
Number Four: The Four Horsemen
Number Four: The Four Horsemen - The Four Horsemen are probably the greatest faction of all time and from that faction, countless legendary tag-teams stemmed off from. Arn and Oly Anderson come to mind as one of the very finest "brother" combinations of all time. Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard also frequently teamed together and as the years progressed, The Four Horsemen also included tag-teams such as Dean Malenko and Chris Benoit, Ric Flair and Chris Benoit, Barry Windham and Curt Hennig, Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko and more. The legacy of The Four Horsemen can still be seen today in TNA Wrestling where Ric Flair currently wrestles. As of 2011, the Faction, "Fortune", a tribute to The Horsemen, features the likes of James Storm and Robert Roode. Ric Flair and AJ Styles have also teamed together against the likes of Hulk Hogan and Abyss.
The Midnight Express
Number Five: The Midnight Express
Number Five: The Midnight Express - The Midnight Express were most famous for their legendary feud against The Rock 'N' Roll Express. However, the famous threesome of Stan Lane, Dennis Condrey and "Beautiful" Bobby Eaton once dominated the world of tag-team wrestling becoming synonymous with its meaning. They are one of the teams that helped to lay the foundations of modern day tag-team wrestling. It is just a sad turn of events that Beautiful Bobby was reduced to jobber status in the singles division of WCW in his later career in the promotion when he could have offered so much to the tag-team division if he was given a young partner or even a dream partner such as Ricky Morton or Barry Windham.
Harlem Heat
Number Six: Harlem Heat
Number Six: Harlem Heat- Harlem Heat are one of the most iconic modern day tag-teams. They were home grown WCW talents and they went on to achieve countless world tag-team championships after feuds against the likes of The Outsiders and The Steiner Brothers among countless more. Once the team dissolved in the 2000's, Booker T embarked on a very successful singles career that spanned several world championships in the WCW and WWE. He eventually joined TNA Wrestling where he formed a dream tag-team with "Big Poppa Pump" Scott Steiner as a part of the Main Event Mafia faction where the duo enjoyed a successful tenure as TNA world tag champions. As of 2011, Booker T has re-joined the WWE after a successful return at WWE Royal Rumble 2011. Now, Booker is a mainstay on WWE's Smackdown brand as a color commentator.
The Hart Foundation
Number Seven: The Hart Foundation
Number Seven: The Hart Foundation- Bret "The Hitman" Hart and Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart became one of the most unique tag-teams of all time. The team consists of Neidhart, a force of brute power and strength and Hart, pure speed and technicality; a unique combination to say the least and one that became synonymous with tag-team wrestling and wrestling in general. The team enjoyed tag-team success and eventually became a faction. In recent years, Bret Hart has returned to the WWE where he became a mainstay on RAW and enjoyed a feud against Vince McMahon which culminated in a match at WrestleMania 27 in 2010. Neidhart also returned to TNA Wrestling in 2010 where he wrestled "Black Machismo" Jay Lethal. The Hart Foundation legacy was revived in 2010 when DH Smith, Tyson Kidd and Natalya took the name and won the WWE tag-team championships.
The British Bulldogs
Number Eight: The British Bulldogs
Number Eight: The British Bulldogs-The British Bulldogs consisted of UK legends Davey Boy Smith and Dynamite Kid Tom Billington. The team were real-life relatives and Smith was also a member of the legendary Hart family. The team were first seen in Calgary Stampede Wrestling and they also wrestled on ITV World of Sport wrestling. They enjoyed the majoirty of their success in the World Wrestling Federation where they became WWF tag-team champions. However, the duo eventually dissolved and Davey Boy Smith embarked on a successful singles career until his shocking and untimely death in 2002 and Dynamite Kid returned to wrestling in Japan until his retirement due to injury.
Team 3D
Number Nine: The Dudley Boys / Team 3D
Number Nine: Team 3D / The Dudley Boys - Calling themselves the most decorated tag-team of all time, they have the list of achievements and accolades from all over the world to prove it. Team 3D were once known as The Dudley Boyz and they were home grown Extreme Championship Wrestling legends. When the 2000's arrived, they took the WWF by storm and their legacy grew into what would become the WWE. However, when they left the WWE, they joined TNA Wrestling where they have remained ever since. They have countless tag-team titles and they are also mainstays in Japan. They have feuded with legendary names, most recently including the likes of The Steiner Bbothers, The Nasty Boys and Beer Money. They recently parted ways in TNA however but their legacy lives on.
The Outsiders most recently reunited in 2011 at the Gathering of the Juggalos
Number Ten: The Outsiders
Number Ten: The Outsiders- Scott Hall and Kevin Nash changed the very face of professional wrestling in the 1990's in a way that is still felt to this day. They became the most famous tag-team in WCW history and they became household names all over the world - and not just for good reasons. Arguably one of the most controversial teams of all time, but they have the belts, the success and the money behind them to prove that they ruled the world. Hall and Nash recently reunited in TNA Wrestling in 2010 as The Band where they won the TNA world tag-team championships. Since then, Kevin Nash returned to the WWE at the Royal Rumble 2011 as Diesel and Hall has since been resuming his successful career on the independent circuit all across America, not to mention, hosting a regular YouTube vlog called "The Last Call with Scott Hall".
The Undertaker is one half of the iconic monster tag-team, "Brothers of Destruction" with Kane. Could Kane and Undertaker dominate WWE again in 2012?
Triple H was one half of the iconic D-Generation X tag team with Shawn Michaels
Hulk Hogan was one half of the iconic Mega Powers tag team with "Macho Man" Randy Savage. Hulk Hogan currently wrestled for TNA: Impact Wrestling as of 2012.
The Future of Tag Team Wrestling
The aforementioned list is merely ten of the greatest of all time. Let us not forget the likes of Demolition, D-Generation X, The Rockers and more. With a new generation of tag-team wrestling upon us, there are countless others that could be listed on a top ten tag-team list in the future. The likes of The Hardy Boys, Beer Money Inc, The Motor City Machine Guns, Generation Me come to mind among many more.
Wrestling fans must also be aware that some of the greatest tag-teams of all time may not even be featured on this list. This is not a sign of disrespect by any means. Times are constantly changing in the world of wrestling, but who could be featured on a top ten list in 2012, 2013 and beyond?
In recent years, particularly throughout 2011 and even the present day in 2012, tag-team wrestling has seen many great, new teams including "Generation Me" and even Awesome Truth. However, it is safe to say that tag-team wrestling in the WWE and in Impact Wrestling is just a shadow of its former self. Arguably one of the greatest tag teams in the world today is Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin who currently wrestle for ROH (Ring of Honor). 2012 is a brand new year and with the 2012 Royal Rumble and WrestleMania 28 around the corner, what new tag-teams will form and take the WWE Universe and the entire world of professional wrestling by storm in this brand new era of wrestling?

Great hub. The mention of some of these tag teams really took me back. I used to love the Rock and Roll Express. I also liked the Midnight Express, especially when Stan Lane joined.
have you ever heard of a wrestler or tag team called the bumble bee?
Alright....good list......but it's hard to have a list of greatest tag teams without the New Age Outlaws (at least being mentioned) or Demolition.
I really like your list, However...I was shocked not to see think the Fabulous ones and the Freebirds not one it.
Jason
Degeneration X!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
yea you need the new age outlwas in there and you def need the rockers they revolutionized the tag team division
The Rockers were a combination rip-off of The Rock N Roll Express and The Midnight Express, hense why they started off as The Midnight Rockers, and hense why they got their first big break AGAINST The Rock N Roll Express. The New Age Outlaws never did anything memorable enough to be labelled as a great tag team.
What about the Killer Bees and the Von Erich's?
hey you can't for get about the hardy boyz or the nasty boys
U got #1 and #2 correct then went downhill fast! Come on Rock n Roll express #3! What a Joke! #3 British Bulldogs From here u can say The Outsiders, Samoan Swat Team, Doom,Hart Foundation, Can Am Connection, Rockers, Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard, Steve Austin and Brian Pillman Hollywood Blondes, But make it clear 3D, Rock n Roll Express and Midnight Express have no talent. Should be lucky they were even in wrestling to began with.
This is such a tricky one. One man's dream tag team may be considered rubbish by someone else. Personally I loved Money Inc and Power & Glory and The Hardys would have definately made my Top 10 ;)
What about the Twin Towers, Typhoon and Earthquake? Or the Mega Powers (Hogan and Savage in the late 80's)
!!!!!!!!! :)

What no DX or the miz show !?
I agree with the Fabulous Ones and the Freebirds. Demolition should be considered. And Degeneration X? No way! They were just a couple of Fly by nights! They sucked! No one can disagree with number 1. Greatest ever was, is and ever will be. Many promoters said they can wrestle and get by with there gimmick in any decade! No other team can say that? Not to mention they had a manager who actually manged there life and acted as there agent. Paul Ellering a very smart man!
Here Comes the AX, here comes the SMASHER, DEMOLITION
walking DISASTER. Pain and Destruction are our middle
name.
Cannot believe they left out DEMOLITION.
One of the BEST EVER!!!
These are my best:
Brothers Of Distruction
Legacy
Glamarrela
Cryme Tyme
D Generation X
thats it!!!
Did you just say Cryme Tyme should be in top 10?...lol gimme a break.
Really though, Demolition doesnt even make the top 10?, I considered this list to be rubbish after they werent in the top 3. Also, I'd say this list is missing the Can Am Connection, Brain Busters. I liked a number of other teams as well....Quebecers, Colassal Connection, Money Inc.
i like all those great tag partners, specialy the outsiders of course, but u did forgot 1 of all the great ones the D-Generation x
I agree Road Warriors #1 but after that there's a lot of great teams not mentioned..freebirds,somoans,putski n santana,the strongbows,Fugi n Siato
I like your Top Ten...I would disagree with the horsemen position on the list (should be a bit higher), but I still agree that the Road Warriors-Legion of Doom is number 1. Nice read!
one great team not mentioned is the fantastics
bad company
I do notbelieve that they are of the top ten however, as far as pure dominance in their very short reign due to severe injury, I personally choose the Two Man Power Trip as my favorite tag team of all time. However triple h and stone cold are two of my favorite wrestlers. But think about it. They held all but the European and Women's title all at once which is pretty unheard of. But as far as communication and actual tag abilities go, the New Age Outlaws take the cake. Hell, they had to MAKE rules to try to stop them from being so good at what they did. Longevity goes to Team 3D/Dudley boys because they were around for 15 years together. There's far too many factors to just sit and say "these are the best" without hours and hours of research and charting. There are just too many categories to offhandedly decide.
What about the rated rko
wat about beer money
god lord,give me a break demolition,dx,legacy ?? really ??really ?? demolition,the wanna be roadwarriors,any way.one tag team THE FABULOUS FREEBIRDS,end of discussion.
motor city machine guns, the briscoes, kings of wrestling, beer money, apollo 55, america's most wanted, young bucks, lax, are great teams and recently they have re-revolutionised tag team wrestling yet again
DX IS BETTER THAN ANY TAG TEAM YOU PUT ON THE LIST
rey mysterio and batista
E and C
Edge and christian
I think it was Killer Bee's...and honostly I think Scott Hall And Kevin Nash Ruined tag team wrestling.....They never won a fair match, always interference from the the nwo,
I vote for DX, as my all time favorite tag team. I also like Rockem Sockem Connection.

No mention of Demolition?
