Retro gaming is truly irreplaceable. In a time where gameplay was more important than graphics, the retro gaming world saw some of the finest titles in history. For those that are looking for the ultimate list of games of yesterday, look no further. The following is a list of games that are must-plays for those that are looking for their retro fix.

Landstalker

Landstalker: The Treasures of King Nole is an adventure RPG that was released for the Sega Genesis or the Sega Megadrive as it is also known in the early 1990’s. What is amazing about Landstalker is the fact that it takes place in fully 3D environments. Players will have to defeat enemies, solve complex puzzles and learn to maneuver skillfully in order to get from A to B. The awe inspiring gameplay, along with a breathtaking storyline, make Landstalker one of the best retro games of all time and also, one of the most underrated.

Wonderboy III: The Dragon’s Trap

The Dragon’s Trap was released for the Sega Master System in what feels like a lifetime ago. It was one of the first games to feature a save system in the form of a password feature meaning that if you note down your password, you can load your progress where you left off. The Dragon’s Trap sees Wonder Boy, or Hu-Man, succumb to the dragon’s curse and he is then forced to take the form of a number of animals including Lizard Man, Piranha Man, Mouse Man, Lion Man and Hawk Man. Buy new weapons and Armour, stockpile money and items and follow an amazing storyline with addictive gameplay in one of the best retro games of all time.

Alex Kidd in Miracle World

No list of classic retro games Is complete without Alex Kidd. Alex Kidd is a cult classic video game that boasts an addictive soundtrack, addictive gameplay and a truly breathtaking, endlessly re-playable gameplay experience. As a Sega Master System classic there are very few that compare to Alex Kidd.

The Legend of Zelda

Everyone knows The Legend of Zelda series, but few know where it began. As a simple birds eye-view like adventure game, The Legend of Zelda is where it all began. Go through labyrinths and dungeons; collect new items and weapons and defeat monster after monster all in the name of saving the princess and the world. Again, there are very few that compare to Zelda. You should also sample the “Zelda Clone” Golden Axe Warrior on the Sega Maser System which is yet another retro masterpiece in its own right.

Lunar: The Silver Star

Lunar is an RPG for the Sega Mega CD that was released in the 1990’s. gamers may be familiar with the name as it was re-made and re-released as Lunar: The Silver Star Story Complete. The Sega CD version however is a retro masterpiece that boasts simplicity but also uniqueness. There was no other game like it at the time. It came complete with voiceovers and cut scenes too and plenty of hidden secrets that can keep players begging for more. Lunar delivers to say the least.

Secret Of Mana

There are very few viable competitors for greatest multiplayer game of all time award from the retro era, especially when it comes to RPG’s. However, Secret of Mana is just that. It is a multiplayer action RPG with limitless potential in regards to its gameplay and it also boasts a flawless storyline. Everyone that loves RPG games need to get their friends together to play this multiplayer retro masterpiece at least once in their lives. Up to three people can play Secret of Mana at any one time; they can attack, move and roam freely for the most versatility ever seen in a SNES RPG at that time.
