Beyond 20-0 : Who's next for The Deadman at WrestleMania 29 in 2013?

The Undertaker is certainly one of, if not the most storied professional athlete in the history of the WWE. With a career that spans over twenty years, it is not Undertaker’s endless title reigns or iconic matches that make him a legend, it is his status as a WrestleMania spectacle. The Undertaker is the only wrestle in history to be undefeated at WrestleMania in what is presently nineteen events, making Undertaker’s WrestleMania streak 19-0. The names in which make up this streak make the achievement that much more impressive as such names as “Nature Boy” Ric Flair, Kevin “Diesel” Nash, “The Heartbreak Kid” Shawn Michaels and “The Cerebral Assassin” Triple H have fallen victim to the legendary “Deadman”.

However, with WrestleMania 29 now one year away in 2013, and with The Undertaker’s career evidently winding down, it is amazing that he has made it to 20-0 at the expense of Triple H; but will he make it to 21-0 one year from now? In reality, the chances are about 50-50, but in the likely even that Undertaker is beaten at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, who should be the man to end the streak?

There are countless names that truly are “Worthy” of defeating The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, many of whom Undertaker is familiar with, others who are potentially the superstars of the future. Here are some likely candidates who could not only be The Undertaker’s WrestleMania 29 opponent in 2013, but also some names from both within the WWE and outside of it that could step up to the table and defeat “The Deadman” at what really is – his event.

Triple H

Triple H has attempted to defeat The Undertaker at WrestleMania on three separate occasions. Last year at WrestleMania 28, Triple H came closer than anyone in history at laying “The Deadman” to rest. However, at the last second, Triple H lost the match, the same way he did eleven years previous, and two years ago at WrestleMania 27. However, if “fourth time’s a charm” is a quote to go by that kind of twists the conventional "three", the recently returned “King of Kings” has been a man on a mission since his return at TLC 2011 in which he defeated and destroyed his long-time friend, “Big Sexy” Kevin Nash. Considering HHH has spent 2011 both on the side lines since his match with The Undertaker at WrestleMania 27, only to return, face and defeat an enemy of his from the past, could Triple H step up to the table again and challenge another enemy from the past in The Undertaker in 2013? If so, and Triple H does face The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 in 2013, “The Game” will likely be the one to put the final nail in the coffin to both “The Phenom’s” WrestleMania undefeated streak – and his career. HHH came so close to becoming the ultimate King of Kings at WrestleMania 28 in the Hell in a Cell; he deserves one more shot...

Shawn Michaels

Shawn Michaels has rarely been seen on WWE television since The Undertaker ended his career two years ago at WrestleMania 26. However, Michaels did recently return as part of the Triple H versus Kevin Nash feud. It seems peculiar that Michaels would return so suddenly and randomly around the ultimate WrestleMania return time, not to mention, the recent return of Undertaker’s brother, Masked Kane, and with countless rumors of Taker’s WWE return all over the Internet. Could it be a mere coincidence, or could HBK be ready to put the boots on one more time for a “third time’s a charm” match against The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 in 2013? Who knows; considering that Shawn Michaels has tried and failed at defeating Undertaker at WrestleMania on two occasions, perhaps this is his one final stand...

Goldberg

Goldberg has been missing in action in wrestling for years, but he recently announced that he was training to get back in the ring for a one off return. As we all know; a one off return usually leads to bigger things, especially for a name as big as Goldberg, and especially at a time when Undertaker is at 20-0 at WrestleMania. Goldberg had an impressive win streak of 173-0 in WCW until he was defeated by Kevin Nash. Nash of course recently returned to the WWE. Considering Undertaker and Goldberg has been a WCW vs WWE dream match for over a decade, it would make sense to have Goldberg vs Undertaker at what could potentially be “The Deadman’s” final WrestleMania. Goldberg vs Undertaker is possible now more than ever if you look at the math! WWE; Give us the dream match, give us Goldberg vs. Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 in 2013!

CM Punk

A force to be reckoned with in the WWE and arguably one of the biggest superstars in the WWE today. CM Punk is a true tale of rags to riches in the WWE. He is the living, breathing definition of attitude and talent combined; a style very reminiscent to “Stone Cold” Steve Austin who was one of Undertaker’s greatest opponents. Considering the hype on Punk right now and the current “youth movement” it really is about time a veteran legend stepped up to challenge Punk and bring a touch of old school to the table. What better place than WWE WrestleMania 29 in 2013? This, considering Punk’s new rise to fame in 2011 and 2012, not to mention his huge step, would certainly be a modern day dream match.

Sting

While Sting is currently contracted to TNA’s Impact Wrestling, Sting’s retirement is a yearly subject as he is known to sign a year at a time, meaning his contract is likely due to end once more. With that being the case, it has to be said that Sting vs. The Undertaker once again is a potential match-up. Sting is in phenomenal shape and has had an amazing year in TNA and arguably one fo the best years in his career. He has had epic matches and rivalries with countless huge names, and he enjoyed success as TNA world champion once more earlier this year. “The Stinger” has been on a role and has a new lease of life in the ring; what better time to jump ship to the WWE in time to wrestle The Undertaker at WrestleMania 29 in 2013? Needless to say; this is again a long-term WCW vs. WWE dream match that could finally come together in 2013.

Masked Kane

Kane made a shocking and unexpected return to the WWE last month wearing his trademark mask. Since then, “The Big Red Monster” has been terrorizing John Cena and the WWE Universe, as well as Randy ORton at WrestleMania 28 in 2012. If time has proven anything, it is that when Kane is on a rampage such as this, only his brother can stop him. Kane and Undertaker are life-long rivals and tag-team partners alike, but this time around if The Undertaker does return, Kane, along with his powerful mask, could end The Undertaker’s career. It was Kane that Undertaker wrestled at WrestleMania 20 when he finally returned to his old gimmick and now, if time is indeed like a river, now that Kane has returned to his original masked gimmick, perhaps it is time for Kane to return the favor. Masked Kane vs. Undertaker could indeed take place at WrestleMania 29 in 2013 and if it does, Masked Kane could indeed prevail; at least, the signs certainly point to it!
